The first year of the conference "PhD meeting 2019" organized by the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the CAS took place between the 3rd and 5th of June. An organizing committee composed of doctoral students of the Institute set up the program of the conference and also invited external speakers.
The main topics of the conference were presentations of doctoral students from individual departments of the institute, where students of higher years presented their research focus as a lecture and students of lower grades as a poster presentation. In both categories, three award winners were selected by the commission and the students themselves. In the lectures section Mgr. Denisa Kirdajova, Mgr. Kristýna Skřenková and Mgr. Katarína Vaškovičová were awarded. In the poster presentation section, Mgr. Klára Červená, Bc. Adolf Melichar and Ing. Anna Šišková were awarded.
The conference was commenced by Mgr. Martin Horák, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Neurochemistry, who presented the results of a survey among students. Director Ing. Miroslava Anděrová presented the Institute's current vision and Head of the Department of Developmental Biology RNDr. Ondřej Machoň Ph.D. gave a presentation on the possibilities of post doctoral education. Among the invited speakers was the director of Bioinova, s.r.o. MUDr. Peter Bauer, PhD., who spoke about the differences between the academic and commercial spheres of science. Mgr. Michal Fejgl, Ph.D. from the National Radiation Protection Institute, made a contribution on ionizing radiation and its impact on human health. The importance of all research results, including the negative ones, was presented by doc. MUDr. Přemysl Jiruška, Ph.D., winner of the Neuron Impuls Award for 2012, from the Institute of Physiology of the CAS. Hana Cahova, PhD. from the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the CAS, presented her research on dinucleoside polyphosphates. Mgr. Petr Svoboda, Ph.D. from the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the CAS talked about building a career in science. The President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prof. RNDr. Eva Zažímalová, CSc., summarized the history, current status and future focus of the Academy of Sciences.
The event took place in the conference rooms of the Maxmilian Lifestyle Resort at Loučeň Castle.
