A new study by the authors' team from the Department of Developmental Biology entitled "Meis2 controls skeletal formation in the hyoid region" was published in the scientific journal Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology (IF 6.684) at the end of September. The study was co-written by Mgr. Jaroslav Fábik, Mgr. Viktorie Psutková and RNDr. Ondřej Machoň, Ph.D.

The scientists investigated the molecular mechanisms of the formation and shaping of head bones in mouse embryos. In experimental models, the researchers described the function of the transcription factor Meis2, which, together with other transcription apparatus Hand2 and Pbx1, influence the correct space condensation of mesenchymal cells, cell division of chondral cells and proper integration into growing cartilage.

This work has contributed to understanding the principle of the formation of diverse bone shapes in the head of vertebrates.
