The two largest scientific and educational institutions in the Czech Republic will continue in cooperation within the BIOCEV research centre in Vestec by Prague. This week, representatives of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Charles University (UK) confirmed this cooperation by signing a new partnership agreement.

In the context of Czech (and European) science, BIOCEV represents a top comprehensive platform for the development of modern biotechnologies and biomedicine. It is a joint project of the Czech Academy of Sciences and Charles University, with over 800 Czech and foreign experts from 6 institutes of the CAS and two faculties of Charles University. These are the Institute of Experimental Medicine, Institute of Molecular Genetics, Institute of Biotechnology, Institute of Microbiology, Institute of Physiology and the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry. Above mentioned faculties of Charles University are the Faculty of Science and the 1st Faculty of Medicine.

Based on this new cooperation agreement, more than a decade lasting cooperation can continue. This cooperation has led to a number of important discoveries, such as the discovery of an effective anti-cancer agent, new antibiotics or innovative methods to increase the success of artificial insemination.

Since the beginning of this project in 2005, 942 scientific papers have been published and 37 patents, prototypes and applications have been obtained.
