Scientists from IEM CAS received a significant award from the Czech Academy of Sciences

The President of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Prof. RNDr. Eva Zažímalová, CSc., awarded a team of scientists from the Department of Molecular Biology of Cancer a significant award - Award of the CAS for outstanding results of great scientific significance. The award was recommended by the Academic Council together with the Awards Committee CAS.

The prize was awarded to the author team of the award-winning publication entitled 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and other fluoropyrimidines in colorectal cancer: past, present and future, namely Mgr. Soňa Vodenková, Ph.D., doc. MUDr. Tomáš Büchler, Ph.D., Mgr. Klára Červená, MUDr. Veronika Veškrnová, Ph.D., MUDr. Pavel Vodička, CSc., Ing. Veronika Vymetálková, Ph.D.

The award ceremony will take place in the autumn of this year.

 

This publication presents all the molecular mechanisms of chemoresistance in colorectal cancer patients known so far. It also focuses on the different prodrugs of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), developed to increase the amount of circulating 5-FU and reduce its toxicity. Among other things, the article suggests future directions for personalized therapy of colorectal cancer according to the latest published results.
