The Czech Academy of Sciences awarded researchers for outstanding achievements

On November 15, 2021, the Award ceremony of the Czech Academy of Sciences - Prize for Outstanding Research, Experimental Development and Innovation took place in Villa Lanna.

Among the laureates were also researchers from the IEM CAS, namely Mgr. Klára Červená, RNDr. Soňa Vodenková, Ph.D., MUDr. Pavel Vodička, CSc., and Ing.Veronika Vymetálková, Ph.D.

For the absent researchers, the award was received by the Director of the IEM CAS Ing. Miroslava Anděrová, CSc.

The award was recommended by the Academic Council together with the Awards Committee of the CAS for the publication entitled "5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and other fluoropyrimidines in colorectal cancer: past, present and future".

The authors of this publication are also doc. MUDr. Tomáš Büchler a MUDr. Veronika Veškrnová, Ph.D.

The publication presents all the molecular mechanisms of chemoresistance in colorectal cancer patients known so far. It also focuses on the different prodrugs of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), developed to increase the amount of circulating 5-FU and reduce its toxicity. Among other things, the article suggests future directions for personalized therapy of colorectal cancer according to the latest published results.
