At the beginning of this year, the Institute of Experimental Medicine CAS joined the international research project of the initiative The EU Joint Program - Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND).

JPND is the largest global research initiative aimed at tackling the challenge of neurodegenerative diseases. especially dementia, Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease.

JPND aims to increase coordinated investment between participating countries in research aimed at finding causes, developing cures, and identifying appropriate ways to care for those with neurodegenerative diseases. The main goal is to find cures for neurodegenerative diseases and to enable early diagnosis for early targeted treatments.

A total of 163 international projects involving research teams from 23 participating countries were submitted under the call " Multinational Research Projects on Personalized Medicine for Neurodegenerative Diseases". The eighteen projects were recommended for funding, four of them with Czech participation. The projects of the Institute of Experimental Medicine CAS, Charles University, Masaryk University, and the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry CAS succeeded among strong international competition. The amount of 30 million CZK is now allocated for these projects from the funds of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.

Within the ADAIR project, researchers have focused on research into the impact of air pollution on the development of this serious disease. The ADAIR project ( Alzheimer's Disease and AIR pollution) represents an international collaboration of experts from the fields of neuroscientists, epidemiologists, geneticists, as well as ICT specialists and representatives of non-profit organizations.
